Renaissance Wedding Inspiration // Berlin

The team chose Herrenhaus Vogelsang as the impressive venue for this Berlin-based Renaissance-inspired styled wedding shoot.

This ancient manor, situated in a picturesque hilly landscape surrounded by lakes, is referenced in documents dating back to 1379 and represents the charm of old Europe. It has a unique, ailing charm which the design team used as part of the shoot’s historic aesthetic. The goal was to create an effective contrast between the modern décor characteristic of the glamour of the New Romantic movement and the antique ambiance.

The wedding planners from IDO Events designed this understated, luxury wedding shoot to inspire glamorous modern brides who aren’t into glitz and sequins. This shoot took inspiration from the old manor house setting, while adding contrasting modern twists throughout the décor. For example, on the table scape, classic crystal glassware was used combined with contemporary matte black cutlery and candlesticks and modern menu designs from Made with Love

The two dresses from Annika Maria used flowing ripples of lace—a soft take on the opulence of the Renaissance-style. The hair and makeup look, created by Isabel Plett, used earthy colours, velvet textures and included an effortless low bun to fuse the classic with the modern.

A colour palette of warm, sandy tones was chosen to complement the exposed brick walls of Herrenhaus Vogelsang. Fresh accents of ivory and pale grey were used with pops of cool icy blue in the napkins and florals. This creates an avant-garde feel and great juxtaposition with the historic setting and the delicate use of lace.

The florist, Katya Stavitskaya, found the perfect balance between natural hues and the unexpected accent colours. Dyed phalaenopsis orchids were used to create an elegant and sophisticated look. These were paired with two types of roses (some toffee-coloured, some of a more sandy hue), cream anthuriums and white sweet peas. This combination gave the bouquets a seasonal, vintage look with a distinctly modern feel.
